Descriere

The social context concretized in the current and perspective demands of society, in a certain type of culture and civilization, in certain requirements and standards of life of people, leaves its mark indisputably on education, school, but especially on educational actors (pupils/students and teachers). We will be called to educate a generation that will live and work in a social, professional, technological and even geopolitical environment that will be radically different from the one in which we live and learn today. Thus, today’s school must prepare students for increasingly rapid changes in the economy and society, for occupations that have not yet been created, to use technologies that have not yet been invented, and, more often than not, to solve unpredictable problems. Jacques Delors in the book „The Inner Treasure. The report to UNESCO of the International Commission on Education in the 21st Century”, former Minister of Education in France, strongly states: „Education has the difficult mission of transmitting a culture accumulated over centuries, but also a preparation for a largely unpredictable future.” It is the most complete definition of education, taking into account the time axis: past – present – future.

Education is a constitutive dimension of the human being. Man can only become man through education – says Kant, in the imperative way. Everything related to humanity: language, reason, feelings, art, morality is achieved only through education. Tomorrow’s society is the effect of today’s society.

Humanity needs a common consciousness, to promote a new humanism, based not only on moral and cultural values, but also on the achievements of the scientific and technical revolution and on their impact on life.

Education itself is not really „neutral”, as it is not inseparable from the life of the community, from the economic, social, political situation, from the form of government. Education must constantly respond to the demands of the national and international reality.

Currently, education is a priority issue. All those who clearly see the evolution of the human being, of the rational being, of the modern man, of humanity as a whole place education at the center.

But which young people will really be needed for „tomorrow”?

To this question, the answer to which is in the attention and concern of the people of the „knowledge society”, a group of experts of the Council of Europe mentions seven categories of skills, considered basic for the young people of the 21st century, such as: learning skills, information, thinking skills, communication skills, cooperation skills, work skills and adaptation skills.

In this issue of „Human Education Today for Tomorrow’s World” journal, the members of the editorial team and the scientific committee try to answer the stated question, they try to present a series of the above skills, through the rich range of the journal’s works.
